Therapist REACTS to Disney/Pixar's "Turning Red"

Mental Health, Adolescent Development, Boundaries

I'm a registered social worker & therapist, and today's video is my reaction to watching Disney Pixar's Turning Red for the first time. My goal is to give you a better idea of what aspects of this movie may be accurate from a psychology and social justice perspective, and what they might've gotten wrong.

This video does NOT contain the whole film, but in it I address different mental health, cultural, and intergenerational themes that I see emerge throughout the movie.

Some topics include:

  • Anxiety

  • Adolescent Development

  • Boundaries

  • Intergenerational Cycles & Implications

  • Toxic Perfectionism & suffering in silence
